OCCAM at Aquaculture Europe 2026

A look back at what OCCAM partners shared across the week in Ljubljana…

Two weeks on from Aquaculture Europe in Ljubljana, here is a look back at what OCCAM partners shared across the week.

  • Monday: Many of us joined a session on climate action in aquaculture to open the week.
  • Tuesday: We contributed to a MOOC in sustainable aquaculture for low trophic species, which was presented at the conference. Our coordinator spoke about iterative prototyping in aquaculture research and innovation projects, and we shared a decision support tool for climate-informed sea lice management in Faroese salmon aquaculture.
  • Wednesday: EATIP co-hosted a successful 2026 Innovation Forum on the theme of Innovation in Global Change, alongside CINEA (European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency) and the European Aquaculture Society. In a short innovation pitch, we asked what carp pond sediment could be used for. At the Innovation Forum, our sister project ActFast and OCCAM were presented together under the theme of global change and aquaculture.
  • Thursday: We looked at a decade of harmful algal bloom reports, then presented S1a and S1b in a nature-based solutions session. Both are being developed in Poland for freshwater carp farm management, including freshwater IMTA for nutrient management.

Thank you to everyone who came to our sessions, asked questions and talked with us along the way, and to our partners EATIP for bringing together an ecosystem of sustainable aquaculture innovation and for showcasing groundbreaking projects working to realise sustainable innovations in aquaculture: AQUAPHOENIX, OCCAM, OLAMUR, SEADEEP and AQUARELLE. We look forward to continuing the conversations.
